Painting the landscapes of North Wales
Simon Parker is a contemporary landscape artist based in North Wales, creating small oil paintings inspired by the landscape places and experiences of walking in the landscape. He draws on the British landscape tradition, that has fascinated artists for centuries. His work stems from walking the vast landscapes of North Wales. His works explore ideas through and about painting, using surface and mark, blurring the boundaries between abstraction and realism to present a sense of place.

In the studio
Having my studio set up at home allows for far greater flexibility in developing my work through quiet reflection as well as practical response. The journey starts; experimenting: developing shape, surface and mark. Ideas, meanings and responses begin to form, adapt and change.

The mixing table
The workspace is where the first steps are taken. Colour mixing, creating harmonies, testing the texture of the paint through varying its’ transparency, creating various effects, all contribute to the process.
